Without taking classes, what's the best way to learn C++?

I don't want to take traditional or non-traditional classes and have a small grasp on programming (I have programmed in VB, QB, and a bit of Java), but I really need training from the start. Where should I go? What do I need to download? What are (free) tools that will help me learn?

Don't worry so much about things being free. I'd suggest going to eBay or Half.com and looking for Wrox Press C++ books. I've always been a fan of Wrox programming books and I've heard good things about their C++ titles.

Your other best bet is to simply download source code for open source programs and take them apart to see what makes them tick.
Reply:I am not sure, but is there a C++ For dummies book?

I have purchased a number of 'Dummies' books over the years.

Reply:Well i really dont know how you can study advaned languages without knowing the basic c .Atleast you are sensible to know that programming classes are a waste you got to buy a good book start understanding rather than learning a language..
