I am trying to learn how to Program so I was wondering what is a good compiler and how should I learn it?
If I am trying to learn C++, should I take a class and learn it or use friends and teach myself?
There is more to Computer Science than Programming, so think about what skills you want to learn. Do you want to just play around, to solve puzzles like on this site (this can be a good way to learn to Program):

Do you want to work in the computer industry? If so, I'd recommend a class. It is important to learn both how computers actually do what they do, and how do think mathematically when programming.
One good (free!) intro to Computer Science that many smart people love is the Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs (aka SICP):

Yeah, yeah - I know it is not C++, but it will make you a much better C++ programmer, and a computer scientist also.
Best wishes...
PS you can get the Visual C++ compiler / editor / debugger for free from Microsoft:

Reply:I don't know the best compiler, but I do know a good site of tutorials...Most are in Microsoft Visual C++, but you should check it out anyway.

Reply:TAKE THE CLASS! You will learn a lot more a lot quicker this way so TAKE THE CLASS!
Reply:I would search the Internet for "tutorials for C++", "C++ tutorials", "learn C++". If you try searching, you will find something.
Reply:I would definatly take a class, your freinds might be freaking smart but there not pro teachers, so it will be more difficult to learn.
the c++ lessons might cost a bit more but i think its worth it..
