Is it necessary to learn c++ fro soft devpt?

No, for the simple reason that a lot of software is

developed in other languages.

That being said, C++ is one of the more common development

languages (C, C++, Java, C#, ...), so (particularly in

certain application areas) not knowing C++ will limit

the projects that you can work on. Of course in *some*

application areas, not knowning Fortran or COBOL will

limit you :-)

My experience has been that once you understand how to

apply algorithms and data structures, as well as

underlying concepts (like object oriented programming),

then you can pick up the details of particularly languages

when needed. C++ is a large language, so it takes quite

a while to really learn it, but someone who knows Java

can usually pick up quite a bit of it pretty quickly.

Which is the best way to learn C/C++??? Please???

Buy "C Language for Dummies" or "C ++ for Dummies". These books are really good. Also you will need C++ installed in your PC.

If you have enough time, it might be better if you first go through a book of "Data Structure" before learning any language. That can build a very good idea in your mind how data is structured and is organised. It might take some time, but if you do this way, you will be in a better shape while learning C/C++. Also, it might give you to later use your already stablished skills to learn some advanced languages like Visual Basic and Visual C.

Which is the best way to learn C/C++??? Please???
There are no best ways - a good one is practising and taking up a good book. Let internet be your guide in case you want to learn on your own.

Start to write simple programs and start experimenting with different things: syntax, logic to learn why things work in a certain way and why they work better in certain others.

If you've got Linux, gcc is the free compiler (well close to free )....otherwise you could get hold of an old turboc IDE which might though not work pretty well with winXp.........If you've got more questions.....send me a message :)
Reply:you need to have a good reference book. you need to read the book then practice, the more u practice the more you gain. try to motivate yourself with a project, onliner forums provide a lot of help... use them
Reply:better you use www.programming.com

and search learning c/c++ there, ok...?
Reply:study there is no magic potion
Reply:Study and study some more then write in C/C++ to see if you have learned anything.

Is it necessary to learn c++ to become data base administrator ? can any one help me?

It depends on the Company you are applying to You will need to have experience of some sort of Object oriented language i would think, Java or C++ (as they are practically the same thing)but i think for that job you would need to have experience with SQL ie you know Oracle .In any case why would you want to do that job, - boring as hell

Is it necessary to learn c++ to become data base administrator ? can any one help me?
yes, it is.....actually, the pre-requisite subject on my Database 1 was Programming 1(which is C++)...

As a database administrator, you must learn not only how to use database systems but most of all, programming languages especially C++ since it is compatible on all operating systems and database platforms....

Fortunately the author has written books for UNIX too!!!!!

if you found this answer to be best choose the "Best answer"
Reply:If you want a good printed book, "Practical C Programming" by Steve Oualline http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/pcp3/inde... is great. The original "C Programming Language" by Kernighan and Ritchie (see http://cm.bell-labs.com/cm/cs/cbook/ ) is widely regarded as a classic.

Once you're ready to start with the networking stuff, you're in for a treat. Richard Stevens wrote the best computer books I've ever read on any subject. (http://www.amazon.com/UNIX-Network-Progr... )

What's the easiest way to learn C++? I don't cae how long it takes, I just want to learn...?

Get a book and Download a free C++ compiler (I've inlcuded the link to what I use, it's called bloodshead and it's a free compiler that works great. You need to run the compile dexe files in dos if they are not object oriented). That's how I learned C, HTML, XML and VB. Other way si to take a class, but some times that can be painfull if the teacher doesn't suite your learning needs.

You can download Bloodshed Dev C++ for free at download.com. It is a very reliable compiler as byte-wise, it is smaller than many mass and power IDEs out there. Also, you won't have to worry about it taking up all your RAM as an IDE like NetBeans would... C++ is a great language. Have fun!

Is it possible to learn C on my own ? in a month? which book you recommend?

Absolutely. I've rarely taken any classes, in fact, studied the language before taking the course, finding the class BORING when I got there. The best learning of done with practice.

There are some great tutorials on-line. But you might find a good reference book that will be good for looking things up.

Is it possible to learn C on my own ? in a month? which book you recommend?
Do you know any other programming languages? If not, maybe you should start with some other language that makes the learning curve a little easier. The basics of programming aren't really tied to any one language. You should concentrate on learning how to use loops, if statments, etc. It would be very hard to learn how to program in one month. If you already know a bit about programming and you just want to learn C. I think that it would be possible just to learn the C syntax in a month. As far as books, I'd just save the money and use the internet. Just google for beginner programming tutorials. There are tons of great one out there. If you're just starting to program and need an IDE and compiler, I'd use one of the free express edition environments from microsoft. You can download them at http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/expres... I'd recommend trying C#. It's very popular and resembles C. Hope this helps out, good luck!

Is it neccessary to learn C programming in Linux to become a successful electronic engineer?

Electrical Engineers end up doing many different things. Some will use C and some won’t but University is intended to give one a broad education and it would certainly be helpful to be aware of C.

Programming C for Linux is not essential but there are some advantages. The operating system itself is written in C and the Linux source code is freely available. The source code for the utilities are available (the entire GNU project).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_Compile...

C was developed as a language in which the Unix operating system could be rewritten so that it could be more easily ported from one computer to other newer computers.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C_%28progra...

Indecently when Intel engineers developed the first microprocessor, the Intel 4004, they were inspired by the PDP-8. Unix and C were first developed for the PDP-11.

http://www.computermuseum.li/Testpage/Mi...

Today single IC computers (microcontrollers) are embedded in most electronics devices that have a significant amount of sophistication. Microcontrollers (MCU's) are ubiquitous in our world today. They make up the brain of items like calculators, Palm pilots, cell phones, MP3 players, DVD players, automatic bread makers, vending machines, video game boxes, cars, aircraft, cruse missiles, satellites, mars landers, Furbys, industrial robots and hobby robots. These microcontrollers are single integrated circuit (IC) computer controllers in which a computer and input output peripherals have been incorporated into a single package. They are then embedded in the various products mentioned above. C is often the language of choice when programming these microcontrollers.

Is it neccessary to learn C programming in Linux to become a successful electronic engineer?
No competent EE curriculum these days would permit you to graduate without learning one or more programming languages, probably including c (though not necessarily on Linux).

Once you become a practicing engineer, it is, in my experience, very likely that you will have a need for some kind of programming skills. Some engineers essentially become software developers, although certainly not all do.

It is nothing to be afraid of, it's a useful skill and not difficult to acquire.
Reply:Depends on what you want to do. You will probably learn some programming language, perhaps C, in college. Then if you want to be a software engineer you'll probably need to know it. Other types of electronic engineering, you probably won't use it.
Reply:hey if u know c in windows it's not a big deal different in linux..should be a walk in the park 4 u.. but then u don even need c to be a good electronic engineer.. u just need matlab.. i am an electronic engineer myself.. even if u just have the basic knowledge of cit will do.. contact me if u need something about matlab i ve got a gr8 self teach cd somewhere
Reply:my father was an electrical engineer and had a good job at Chrysler and never learned C. He switched from that though. why would you need to know how to write computer programs? unless you plan on making your own engineering software or making programs to control a module you wouldn't need to.

Do I have to know "C" to learn "C++"?

No, you do not need to know C to learn C++. C is a lower- level language. This means that it requires you to know low level machine details such as memory management for strings, arrays, and dynamic memory allocation. C++ came later, and addresses many of the frustrations C programmers had by replacing character arrays with the string class and arrays with the vector class, for example.

Do I have to know "C" to learn "C++"?
No,but if you have some knowledge about "c" then "c++" should be as easy as pie.
Reply:No, you do not. Learning C will make learning C++ easier, but it is definitely not a prerequisite.
Reply:C is a subset of C++

Where can i learn c scripting language?

C is not actually a scripting language. Unlike scripting languages, it needs a compiler to translate the text of your program into machine instructions.

You can get gcc, a free C compiler, off the web. Google around for it, and you'll find it. http://www.mingw.org/ may be a place to start.

As for books, I like "Teach Yourself C" by Herb Schildt. Amazon has it, among others.

How can i learn c++?

There are many ways to go about it.

One of the easiest and quickest would be to join a class or course on C++. Most computer institues offer one.

If you want to learn yourself, you could buy a book and practise. There are many books available on the market. C++ by Sumita Arora or C++ by Balaguruswamy are excellent books.

Just remember, what ever you learn, you should definitely practise either at home or school/college computer. Practise includes trying to write and compile and debug your own programs . writing and debugging on your own is the best way to learn any programming language.

For home use, many free c++ compilers are available on the internet. Just use google to find some.

Hope this helped.

I want to learn c language, Who teach me?

I learnt many high level computer languages in school. My experence tell me C is not that easy to pick up if you did not have any programming experence. If you did know how to program in 'basic' language, you can learn C by yourself. Go to get a C language text book (or download it). You also need a C language compiler (software) to run your program. Any cheap old computer that run DOS is good enough.Pick a course offer from school is better to start.

How can I learn C# ?!?
Easy... Download the C# express edition from Microsoft (all mentioned links included below) and install.

You can go to the Visual C# page on MSDN (Microsoft Developer's Network) to get links to resources and downloads (such as code snippets, starter kits, articles, etc.)

The .NET framework comes with lots of sample code that demonstrates the various .NET Framework APIs. There are also a few tutorials as well.

If you have questions, you can ask other developers in the GotDotNet forums, which have a C# message board as well as links to user submitted code samples.

As far as books go, "Inside C#, 2nd Edition" by Tom Archer, which is a very good reference and can be purchased used for slightly under $20.00.

You can learn c++ right on your own computer. Start making programs, get on the internet and look stuff up, try out examples and figure out how they work, etc.

What is the better to learn C# with .Net platform or C++?

What is easiest to learn? C#

very simple object oriented programming but requires .net framework on your target computer,

What is best to learn? C++

Write to windows or Independent OS Platform, code anything you want.

What is the better to learn C# with .Net platform or C++?
C# is much better environment to learn how to program in. C# use is high and going up. C++ has widespread use but is going down fast. Also C++ is much harder to learn. I would recommend C# for anyone who want to learn Windows programming.
Reply:The truth is that C++ will never die, so it is a good language to learn, and it is pretty much froozen meaning once you learn it thats it the language will not change.

With C# and the other .NET languages they are much easier to use and you can be more production with them.

So i would say learn C# because it is modern and you can develop real good systems really quickly
Reply:I have been writting programs for 30 years, so I have a bit of experience :D

If you are wanting to write programs for the internet then C#.

If you are wanting to write programs for smartphone or other "Devices" (more complicated applications) then C++.

C++ is much more powerful, C# is easier to learn.

Pls suggest how can i learn c an c++ without going to an institute but in internet?
go buy a beginners c++ book, all over amazon.com...best way after learning in a school
Reply:Buying books is the best way to learn C++ apart from going to school. The stuff on the Internet is not nearly as good as what you'll find in a decent book. If you can't afford to buy many books, but you have a decent Internet connection, you might consider joining the ACM. You can get access to a bunch of ebooks with your membership. For myself, I prefer paper books, but ebooks are cheaper. You can read about joining the ACM here: http://www.acm.org/ But it might cost you more than it cost me, because I am a college student. Good luck!
Reply:You can find compilers, editors and tutorials at the URL below. It is a good collection for a lot of programming tools and different language resources.

Reply:1. First of all get the software .

2. then get a couple of c books , E-books. which is easy to understand for you .

3. then install the software and try the example programs .

4. when you get well with this combine different code and write on your own .

5. never forget to keep on finding and using new things. This is how to learn any language .

6.always see other proficient guys source codes and try to understand and adapt .
Reply:Do a search on "C tutorial" There are several sites that have info. Also, now that I think of it, search on "Cram Session" I think they have some programming tutorials.
Reply:Download any of the compilers like TURBOC2 or turboc3 and start practising by writng simple programs and work out with datastructures too..only by practising u can become a expert in those languages..All the best

You could start here:

Where can i learn C computer languageing?
you should start it on PC schools
Reply:u can try for the niit.com
Reply:If I was you, do what I do, because you can learn so much from college or uni, or from websites. Best way, is find people that's in with what you're into and start learning from them. Why this is better?

Because when you're in a groupe of friends, and they all in the same kind of wave length, then dude, you're in luck. They'll have loads of books on the stuff too which you can borrow from them and if you get stuck, do what I do. Just email or be on MSN and they'll happen.

Man, I learn faster than any student when it was done that way because they teacher would ramble all day and I won't learn a thing but when I got together like minded people, that was it. I got passionate because the people I was with were.

And it's more fun. Oh yeah, plus we had a lot of pizza's lol.

Wich is a better to learn c++ or visual C++ and what is the differance?

and what would be a good compiler for a beginner

Wich is a better to learn c++ or visual C++ and what is the differance?
C++ is a 'standard' language; Visual C++ is a language that is designed by Microsoft and that's supposed to be the same as C++, only with some extensions to make better use of the capabilities of Windows --and that will make it incompatible with any other platform.

When you learn one of the two, learning the other isn't that hard anymore. Which one to choose depends on what platform you'll be programming for: Windows (= Visual C++) or any other platform (= C++).

One nice thing about Visual C++ is that you can use Visual Studio, an 'integrated development environment' (IDE) by Microsoft. Friend and foe usually agree it's pretty nice to work with. :-) See my source list below.

As someone else already wrote (sort of), the GNU gcc compiler is pretty much the standard for anyone who doesn't use Visual Studio. See also my source list.
Reply:c++ is a language, visual c++ is a windows application, that supposedly helps you write programs for windoze.

That's the difference.

If you want to write programs in c++ (which is quite a bad choice of language, if you ask me), you need to learn c++. If you want to write c++ programs using visual c++ (which is a much much much worse of a choice), you also need to learn visual c++.

As for a good compiler. Here is pretty much THE compiler :-)

http://gcc.gnu.org/
Reply:C++ is much better, although visual c++ is object oriented programming, c++ is much ease of understanding.

Reply:If it's your first programming language, normally you would take a course. However, it is quite possible to learn a programming language from a book. Normally once you know a language it is much easier to pick up other computer languages. My favorite book series is the SAMS: TEACH YOURSELF %26lt;insert programming language here%26gt; in 21 days.

These books follow a day by day lesson plan and if you follow that lesson plan (and actually DO the programming, and get some practice on your own) you will find yourself a much better programmer than most people who take college programming classes.

here is a link to the book:

If you have questions about programming topics you can either post on Yahoo answers or go to IRC for live discussions.

To do this, get an IRC client

(e.g. mIRC at http://www.mirc.co.uk or xChat) you can google for them.

I would recommend going to Undernet or EFnet and joining

the #c++ channel (most of the programmers there also know C

very well) I don't know if there is a c channel. I think there is a general programming channel #programming.

You should also program your own side project like a game, something you will want to develop on your own as it will give you more practice (try a roguelike game, like Nethack or Angband)

Get a copy of the "C Programming Language" by Kernighan and Ritchie (also referred to as K%26amp;R or the white book). Work through it, entering the code examples and trying variations. This assumes that you've got a working C compiler.

If you've not seen the C style of doing pointers and arrays you might have some rough sledding there. Start that chapter in the morning after a good night's sleep.

Figure about a week, give or take, until you have a beginning grasp. It *will* take a while to become truly proficient.

Note that there are other books that others prefer to K%26amp;R, but I'm only writing from my own experience.
Reply:C is outdated, It's better to learn C++ or an even newer language, like Visual Basic.

I learned C++ using the free online book 'Teach Yourself C++ in 21 Days'. I recommend it. The link is below.

YASHAWANT KANETKAR

YOU CAN LEARN C WITHIN ONE MONTH WITH THIS...
Reply:Get a tutor. Really, you can learn it well in a classroom, and if you are really good at taking from a book and learning that way there are decent books listed for you already. However the best way is if you get someone that you're willing to pay, or who is willing to teach you for free and get them to sit down with you. At an hour a day, you can cover a lot of ground in 2 weeks. That will be the fastest way. It is a programming language however, and it's not going to be fast by any means. I would also advise that you learn something other than C. C++ is incredibly powerful. Visual Basic is much much easier than either of those, and Java is a good one too. If you hve never learned a language, Visual Basic is a good place to start. C++ however will teach you better on a lower level so that you can see more of what is going on. Good luck.

I want to learn C++?

whats a good compiler I could download, how do I set up my computer for programming, and is there anything else I should know ( I don't know anything as of now)? thanks

I want to learn C++?
I use Dev-C++:

http://bloodshed.net/dev/devcpp.html

If you download from the link under:

Dev-C++ 5.0 beta 9.2 (4.9.9.2) (9.0 MB) with Mingw/GCC 3.4.2

It comes with everything you need to get started: the development environment (fancy text editor that will color code the source code you write and call the compiler with the click of a button) and the MinGW version of the GCC and G++ compilers (what actually takes the code you write and turns it into a program you can actually run).

Whatever compiler and editor you chose, I've found a helpful tutorial site here:

http://www.cprogramming.com/begin.html

You could also search Yahoo or Google for more tutorials or information about a specific topic in C++ programming.
Reply:Check out http://www.learncpp.com

It's got a bunch of tutorials that might be of use to you.
Reply:Download gcc from gcc.gnu.org

I use the syn editor which highlights and colors the syntax.

Just go to the FAQ and documents for setup information.

The graphics library you will use depends on whether you

are using a Windows PC or Lenix operations system.

You can use the opengl or the more simple GRX stuff.

There should also be a port for directx graphics.
Reply:Visual Studio Express Edition (link below) is a free download. Visual Studio supports C#, C++, VB .NET. It is great for learning and has lots of help, tutorials and webcasts.

To learn the actual C++ language, you should get a good book too. I still look at my C++ book frequently (Lippmann/LaJoie C++ Primer). C++ is not an easy language but it is powerful and widely used.

The Netbeans IDE (5.5.1 with 6.0 around the corner) (second link) is another free IDE that supports C++. Originally develped by SUN for Java, it now also supports C++ development. Interesting in case you consider making the switch from C++ to Java.

Have fun.

Should I learn C++, or is there something better?

C++ is heavly use in the game programming industry with C as well.

C++ is powerful but extremely difficult to learn and use professionally..

C++ is portable which means it runs on most platforms.

But depending what type of programming you want to do I will not advise C++. C++ takes 5 more time to setup an application than C#. That is the reason why C# was built , not just to replace Java in the long run but to replace C++.

Unless you are invested in heavy game programming learn C# or Ruby.

C# %26amp; Ruby are both the languages in demand and the languages of the future.

Good luck,

Joe.

Should I learn C++, or is there something better?
not much usefull any more to old, learn java its based on c++ but better, or VB.net
Reply:C++ is more industry standard. You can't go wrong with that. And you can learn java more easily after you know C++. All gaming is in C++.
Reply:It depends on what you'll be programming. C++ is great for game development and has other strengths as well, but other languages have other strengths. You should look into the field you want to work in and do some research on what languages are required to get work in that field.
Reply:And the most accurate answer for such a question is....

It all depends.

Of course, one could argue that it's not an answer at all. ;-)

A google search for "what program language should I learn"

will reveal several suggestions.

Java is similar to C++ in some respects and is probably more applicable in the job market generally.

I personally like Perl and would suggest it if you plan on doing much with websites or on Unix/Linux systems that you learn it.
Reply:You have already been advised -it depends.

However in order to identify the right programming language for the job then you should apply software engineering principles. These are well documented in any good SE reference book, and some of the answers have given you some specific examples of the factors involved.

The non-technical aspects you should be able to work out easily yourself: eg increasing your emploability or salary etc.
Reply:did you get no answers the first time my little Cherub++ ??

awwwwww :-)
Reply:If I were to learn a language now I would learn VB.NET. It's in demand and very popular. There are many learning material and lots of source code avaiable to help you "connect the dots" when debugging code for your own projects.

C++ is excellent but I would choose VB.NET as you will be able to produce a rapid interface and be able to run the application over the web.
Reply:Depends on what you want to do once you learn it ;-)

If you're looking for a job, there are C++ jobs to be had, but I'd say you need an MS in Computer Science to be considered for most of them, plus experience.

Java or C# are the way to go these days. C++ never quite replaced C in its niche (OS's, etc.), and was quickly replaced in its own (RAD, etc.).

Whats The Difference Between C++ and Visual C++, Should I learn C++ Or Visual C++?

C++ is an object-oriented descendant of the original C language. Visual C++ is Microsoft's C++ compiler, specifically tailored to Microsoft's GUI operating systems, especially with regard to object classes and libraries.

So while C++ is a general language, Visual C++ is specific to Windows. Learning it still won't hurt you as a C++ programmer, it will just educate you toward Windows.

Whats The Difference Between C++ and Visual C++, Should I learn C++ Or Visual C++?
I'm pretty sure on this but could be wrong. C++ is the language, Visual C++ is a compiler for C++

bridal flowers

I am looking to learn c++ which free compiler should I use? Is visual c++ from windows different than normal?

If you're on windows that (Microsoft visual c++) is the cheapest and easiest road to take. Others will argue go open source, but that microsoft compiler is pretty dang good for the price and reliability.

One thing you'll want to note, not sure if this is still true, but I believe the free version of Visual C++ from Microsoft might not let you publish the software you make in it (ie make money off of it).

I am looking to learn c++ which free compiler should I use? Is visual c++ from windows different than normal?
best C or C++ free compiler is: gcc... get a good ide like eclipse or emacs and you're ready to change the world!
Reply:The express edition of Visual C++ should be fine. And yes, unmanaged Visual C++ should compile any standard C++ program just fine. Microsoft also offers Managed C++, which is non-standard and offers things like automatic array bounds checking, access to .Net, etc.
Reply:I think first you have to go for like TurboC++ or BorlandC++ like complier after then use Visual C++ it will surely help you.

Need to learn C++ pronto - Book reccomendations?

Preferably with a book that explains pointers in an easy to follow manner - anyone seen a book that does this?

thanks!

Need to learn C++ pronto - Book reccomendations?
It depends on your background. C++ has 2 main things that can cause problems for people. One is pointers, and the other is OOP.

For pointers I would recommend starting with Kernighan and Ritchie, if you have some programming experience. It is a little terse for a new programmer, but for experienced people that is desirable. It is about C, not C++, but the exposition of pointers is clearest.

If you do know C then Stroustrup's book is pretty good: http://amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/103-488... You can pick and choose the chapters that you think you need most.

I'd recommend downloading the free version of Visual Studio. It is and excellent development environment. Check www.microsoft.com for this.

Is it mandatory to learn c++ before learning JAVA ?

Not really! Both the languages are fundamentally strong in OOPs concepts. It would be good to know what OOPs is all about before learning either of the languages. All the best :)

Is it mandatory to learn c++ before learning JAVA ?
No, jags has a good point. If I may so humbly add... Learning C is a great way to learn pointers. Somthing that java hides. So knowing C will aid you on your java voyage. Not knowing the basis of pointers within arrays and parameters won't kill you in java, but knowing it will make your programming more efficient.
Reply:No it is not necessary, the maoin reason is that if you know about the C++ then it is good for you for learning the Java. Otherwise you can start Java First.
Reply:NO. BUT A LITTLE UNDERSTANDING OF C IS HELPFUL.
Reply:No it's not. It just helps. They're both object-oriented languages.
Reply:not actually! but it will be better if you study c++ first because they are almost the same. that means that it will be easier to study java if you have c++ background. im currently studying java but im finished with c++, so it's tested! believe me, java will be more interesting to study if you do so! but of course, it's still up to you for some reasons. good luck! i hope i've helped.
Reply:well, my first, and only, class in college was learning JAVA and we did not discuss c++

Which is better to learn C++ or C# ?

C# is the evolved version of C++ and is a proprietary product of Microsoft.

C++ is a platform independent language which helps you program on Windows, Unix, Linux, etc

C# uses only MS based Windows platform and is a part of the .NET programming (mainly to do with Internet based programming) which means that this is used for coding contemporary software.

Both the languages are good for programming but C# is the newer one and is in demand especially if you are seeking jobs in Windows based platforms.

Moreover, C# is a much easier program to learn.

A very basic comparison has been given in this blog:

http://blogs.meetandplay.com/WTilton/arc...

Lot of programmers who graduated from C to C++ to C# have found C# easier to learn. I have come the same way. So learning C# directly might not sound right but it will definitely save you the time of "un"-learning things you used to do as a C/C++ programmer.

Good luck!

Which is better to learn C++ or C# ?
If you want to learn programming from the 2 and want to know which is easier? - Then its C#, C++ has a higher %26amp; steeper learning curve.

If you however learn C++ first, then C# would be a piece of cake, you can also learn C# then after do C++ but it would be a tad bit harder that way.

However C++ is best to learn if you plan to get better jobs in IT/CS. Like in programming commercial games, C++ is better and has much more power than C#, though you can program games in C#, it cannot compare to the speed and power of C++.

Though, It is best to learn both and besides the more programming languages you know, the better chances you have in getting good opportunities in the IT industry.

C# = easier to learn and use, less power and less portability(even with the buggy mono platform for GNU/linux programming, C# is still best suited for development in the microsoft .NET platform) than C++.

C++ = harder to learn, more error prone, but you can make fast, powerful programs, its still also the best programming language for building commercial fast paced %26amp; graphics intensive games, think about it, if it can handle intensive commercial games, then it can definitely be used to make other types of robust software.

In the long run its up to you what your planning to program?

Use the programming language best for the task.

*But if you want to make it easy to learn most any programming language, learn C\C++ first, most any other programming languages will be easier after that.

* but if do you want to try your hand in programming games in C#, checkout - http://www.xna.com/
Reply:C#
Reply:both languages are very useful so it is good that you learn both languages.

But if you learn C# then you must have clear the concepts of c++ or C, coz it is a extended version of C++ only. so you must knw how to work on C++. As for job or work C# is in more demand bcoz it is linked with .net framework.

It will best for you to go through the basics of C++ and then learn C# properly.

C# basically is for providing ease to users and for providing GUI

so best of luck...
Reply:if you have the time you should learn both. It would make you more marketable for a job and can distinguish you from other candidates. GL
Reply:C# as it is newer and in more demand at the moment.

One of the best ways to test for your area would be to look for jobs in your area and see if you could get more with C++ or C#. C# is part of .net. In this area there are many more for C#
Reply:Hi Orlando,

I think C ++ is much useful nowadays and easier to learn.

You can make a short tour on these C ++ and C# through a site "buzzycode.com". Hope, it will be useful for you.
Reply:C# is tied in to the dot Net framework. As such it is optimized for the Windows Operating system. Note. I am a microsoft hater. One recent reason for my strong anti-microsoft opinions is my experiences with Mono, the attempt by some Microsoft-connected Gnome developers to port dot Net over to Linux. It made me give up Gnome even though until then I had found the desktop much more reassuring. Mono does not work because there are conceptual differences between Windows and Unix-derived systems it does not take into account. Thus my system began crashing as often as Win98 used to.

If you are looking for a job doing software engineering, then C++ will support a broader range of platforms (The PS3 is available with Linux on it) and you can be hired by more people. C# will be "hot" as long as Microsoft supports it. Since they are constantly revamping their product line -- sometimes radically -- it's even iffy how long they are going to be supporting it. Learning both, if you want to work on Windows systems, would be your best bet.
Reply:I would learn both, personally. C++ is more difficult than C# but it is still being used in the industry. It is more difficult because you still have to allocate and deallocate memory locations for objects by hand. Whereas in C# it is automatic like Java. One advantage to learning C++ first is that once you know it, it is easy to take on C#.

I wanna learn c++ professionally.what should I do?

Go to school.

Is PHP related to learn c & c++?

No.

Is PHP related to learn c %26amp; c++?
Other than syntax similarities, I would say they aren't really related that much. Programming skills can be passed around though. If you learn any language, it should be faster to learn another unless it's something completel different like Lisp...
Reply:They are only related only as computer languages. PHP is as much different from those as they are from each other.
Reply:yeah, it could be related.
Reply:No. However, the skills required for php, one of which is logic, can be obtained through practices with c++.
Reply:Their syntaxes are very similar, and a programmer that knows one language can learn the other literally by using a cheat sheet. However they are very different under the hood.

Sort of like a woman and a female impersonator, if you get my drift.

If I learn C++, will I be able to do anything? I mean, what can you do with it?

it's a program that u have to learn, and with it you can create and organize other programs and create many things like games, programs(media players and ...) and other stuff.

when you take the programming course in university\college\High school they'll teach you C++.

good luck

If I learn C++, will I be able to do anything? I mean, what can you do with it?
The better question would be "what can't you do with it?"
Reply:You need to start by asking the question: "I want to do X, what should I learn". Do you want to write games programs? Do you want to write client/server applications utilising SQL? Do you want to make your computer talk? Play music? Do you want an intractive web site? Is this recreational stuff or do you want to make money out of it?

I suggest you visit http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/expres...

There you can download c++, c#, J#, sql server all for free. Experiment with these free versions. Look at the free sample code. Decide what you want to do then pick the best tool.
Reply:C++ is heavly use in the game programming industry with C as well.

Good luck,

Joe.
Reply:Most of the Windows/Mac programs your using on your computer right now have probably been written in C++. Some of the more recent Windows programs might even take advantage of the .NET capabilites that Microsoft have developed, as an extension to C++.

Basically, though, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc are all written in C++. It's just up to your imagination, and your abilites with the language, to define what you can do.
Reply:There is lots you can do with C++. However it is getting quite old now, and I think it is better to learn Microsoft .net programming: C# (C sharp), and aspx web programming, as those skills are equally versatile and are likely to stand you in greater stead for the future.

What is easier to learn: C or C++?

C is structured programming. C++ is object oriented programming. if u learn c first, its good u'll get all the basic concepts but when u move on to C++ u'll have to snap out of the structured programming style and start thinking in an object oriented way.

i feel its best to learn C++ straight away. u have good books available in the market. and also it will help you when u are upgrading to other languages like java which are again more to with OOP concepts.

What is easier to learn: C or C++?
C is a sub set of C++ so it is more material to learn. I would try to learn C++ though.

RJ
Reply:If you hav programming experience, then go for C++.

If you are starting from the scratch and learnt Object oriented concepts, then go for C++.

If you are totally new to programming, my suggestion would be C.
Reply:Initially, C++ is a whole lot easier to learn. In the end, C++ becomes far more complicated IMO. In the beginning, you can rely on the C++ STL for things like vectors, strings, etc. You have references instead of pointers, and so on. Eventually, as a C++ programmer, you'll have to learn the C subset that exists in C++. But then afterwards, you'll have to deal with the complexities in templates, the stuff that really lies behind iostreams, and that gets *complicated*. Still, you should pick up C++ first. The semantics for generic programming really change the way you program in C++ as opposed to C.

%26gt;%26gt; (Arif) If you are totally new to programming, my suggestion would be C.

This is possibly the worst recommendation to new programmers. I do not consider throwing C string, arrays, and pointers in C something ideal for programmers. Yet to do even basic things like string input, you have to learn them, right?

%26gt;%26gt; (Scorpio) C is structured programming. C++ is object oriented

No, that's not really what it is. In fact, C++ isn't object oriented so much as generic programming. Ever heard of templates? Try replicating the semantics of C++ templates in C. But trying to think of C vs C++ as structured vs object oriented isn't the best approach.
Reply:My recommendation is C#. It is a very powerful language with simple, less cryptic syntax. Plus the express edition compiler is available for free from Microsoft.

I will like to learn C++ by myself becoase I don't has time and money. Which is a good book to learn by myself

Here is a *great* tutorial to teach yourself C++. It goes over a lot of aspects of programming.

Then once you finish that tutorial you should write a few "hard" programs to test your knowledge and push the limits.
