The best series of books I've come across are called "Teach Yourself - - - in 24 Hours" and "Teach Yourself - - - in 21 Days" by SAMS. In both cases, you replace the "- - -" with the language you're interested in.
Reply:I would look into the "Head First" series of books put out by O'Reilly. You would not be able to use these books as guides or references, but to understand the basics of the Java language.





I'm not really sure about a good 'C' guide! My guess is that "Head First" does not have one...
